Pilates
My initial Pilates training was Classical, and I have a lot of faith in the Method. I still feel deeply connected to, and use frequently, those foundational exercises. I have also fallen in love with imaginative integration of functional movement, so I make up a lot of my own exercises, drawing from my expansive understanding of the Classical repertoire and how the human body moves, my many trainings, and my own creativity.
Yoga
My yoga practice has been rooted in both form and philosophy, and I consider it essential to remember that the Asana, or postures, are only a fraction of the practice. Within our yoga practice, how ornate the pretzel shape one can arrange oneself into is far less important to me than how we live, our consideration of others, and honoring the culture that shared this gift with us. Within the Asana themselves, to me the goal is retaining, and when possible, improving the mobility we need to get through life with minimal pain and discomfort, and maximal joy and freedom.
TRX
TRX was invented by a Navy SEAL, who wanted to keep his team in top shape with something lightweight and portable while on long missions. Although Joseph Pilates was a staunch pacifist, I believe he would have loved this system. It is full body movement, with a deep and consistent connection to the core. I teach it like I teach Pilates-- with the goal of building strength and body awareness more than speed. Even so, it can be a sneaky way to get cardio in, with no impact on the joints.

FUN FACT
TRX can easily be adapted to suit any and all ability levels, from absolute novice to professional athlete, simply by moving the placement of the feet.
Retreats
I co-owned a yoga and Pilates retreat business for five years, and have planned and led retreats to the Dominican Republic, Ireland, Mexico, and France.
I don’t currently have any plans to lead retreats, but have vetted locations in all of the above places, as well as Peru and Romania.
